FAQ

How old does my child need to be to get into preschool?
Typically, children can be evaluated for our program at age 2.9 for our special education programs. If you are a parent and would like to enroll your child in one of our special schools, please contact your CPSE Administrator and ask for a referral package. See below for enrollment information.
How do I enroll my child in your program?
For parents who are seeking special education services, the child must first go through the evaluation process to determine what is the most appropriate placement for the child. The first step is receiving a referral by your school district\'s Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE). To find out what district you reside in, go to: http://schools.nyc.gov/SchoolSearch/Maps.aspx. Enter your address and borough. Choose \"District\" in the map field. Click here (http://schools.nyc.gov/Academics/SpecialEducation/CSE/default.htm) to find out your District\'s Committee on Special Education Chairperson. Call the number and ask to speak to your district\'s CPSE administrator. Typically, HCHC works with children in the following districts: 14, 15, 16,17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, and 32.
What happens after my child is evaluated?
An IEP is generated and a meeting is arranged among the CPSE, parent representative, parent, and evaluator. It is at this meeting the the exact services that will be given to your child will be determined. A detailed guide explaining the process can be found here: http://schools.nyc.gov/NR/rdonlyres/7DA1B82B-94EB-4B4B-A134-EA59A9465DEE/0/SpringParentConf2008AGuidetoUnderstandingtheIEPProcess.pdf
